Never forget
Four years ago we heard the words that will live in infamy, not “We have nothing to fear but fear itself”, no, quite the opposite. “Two weeks to stop the spread”! My first reaction was “They will keep this going as long as they can and milk it for everything they can to see what they can get away with”. I had no idea what it would become and what it remains to this day.
As we watched the constitution shredded, our rights evaporate, schools, churches and businesses closed. There was only one word that came to mind and that was tyranny. Again as an American we had know idea what that meant first hand but we were about to find out.
We don’t have time to discuss where this came from and how long this had been in the works but it would become apparent in a short period of time what was happening.
The State closed down the schools with full support of the public sector unions and the media. The media fanned the flames of fear and the unions made their demands known. The teachers unions rallied to keep the schools closed until their demands were met.
Since the record of those demands have been scrubbed from their website a Hoover Institute article from 2020 preserves the moment. “In addition to defunding the police, they are demanding single-payer government-provided health care; full funding for California’s homeless; a shutdown of publicly funded, privately operated charter schools and a new set of programs to address systematic racism”. That’s particularly rich since the socialists are in control of every institution in this country.
“To pay for all this, they want a 1% wealth tax, a 3% income surtax on millionaires, and increased property taxes on businesses. They also want $250 million from the federal government”.
So how did the Federal and State government react? If you recall they ran around with their “hair on fire” demanding more money for the schools even though they were closed. In other words it worked. Schools remained closed for years, lives destroyed, learning stunted irreparably and so much more. Problems you are still dealing with to this day.
Oh and by the way the government is spending more than it did during covid to the tune of over $2Trillion additional debt per year and climbing. Are the public sector unions responsible for the demise of this country? You can decide for yourself but let this be a cautionary tale for the future, if we have one!
